123 Flash Chat

123 Flash Chat is very easy to use, and find, it can be located on the top right of the screen in the orange toolbar as shown in the screenshot underneath.

(IMG:http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/8164/chaticonoy1.png)

When you've clicked on it, you may need to let it load, it will then log you in and it will come up with different rooms that you can use.

Message Text

Display user and message in a single line - This displays everything in one single line if the box is ticked, for example,

KittyClaws says: Hello welcome to the Chat Room

If you untick the box, this is what it will look like

KittyClaws says:
Hello welcome to the Chat Room

Accept Private Message

In chat, users may wish to have a private message with you, if under any circumstances you do not want to talk via private messages, you may untick this box to block all pms. This is handy when you want to talk mainly via the main chat screen.

Convert Smiley Shortcut to Graphic

In chat, smileys are available; there is a range of different smileys to use, and it is recommended that this option is left; otherwise the smileys will not be visible to you.

Display Time Stamp

This option allows you to view the time a message was sent in main chat and pms (Private Messages).

Open private message in a new browser

This opens up all private messages into a different browser, away from the main chat screen; this is handy if you want to speak just via pm, not in main.

Auto play flashemoticon

This option once checked will automatically play any flash emoticons that are posted in chat; this isn't recommended for people with slow PCs.

Sound

Check all boxes if you wish to have full sound, otherwise, uncheck all boxes to mute chat. It can be customized to your own extent.

Cache

This part will be of no use to any user; it will not remember your username, password, as that is already done by the main site, checking these boxes will not make any difference to your chat.

Save Message History on Server

This option records your chat log for one session; you may increase the size, and also view them. You may need to increase the chat log size upon entry if you plan to stay for a long time, this option will reset if you get disconnected, or you may have to refresh.

Chat logs play a vital part in producing evidence to an administrator should an event occur. Always remember that the chat logs will automatically be cleared if you leave chat, and if you want to keep the records, copy and paste via the "View" option.

Understanding Chat

(IMG:http://i35.tinypic.com/289vkex.jpg)

The black text is the Lobby, click on this and it will give you the option to change to another room.

The red text followed by the arrow indicates the Chat Administrator (KittyClaws)

The green text followed by the arrow indicates the chat moderator (Ian)

The blue text followed by a arrow, this is a user of chat, along with the others in the same text style and font as Hazel/IFancyElvis etc

The brown text followed by a arrow indicates the webcam Icon, click on this icon to send a request to the user of whose camera you wish to view, the recipent may approve or reject you. As for staff they can view anyones webcam without permission.

The Pink text followed by a arrow indicates the avatars, this is optional in chat and you can choose which avatar you would like to have by clicking on the very bottom left of the screen above the message box. Your default avatar will be a Coffee Mug.

Microphone adjustment for use with webcam

A lot of people find it difficult to get the perfect level of sound for chatting through a microphone so here is some tips on how to adjust it

First of all when your in chat you can adjust the java mic setup by right clicking on the screen, selecting "settings" followed by the microphone tab

(IMG:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc215/weeknotty/micadjust1.jpg)

I would recommend you tick reduce echo as it can help with having a two way voice conversation. Making sure the microphone volume is adjusted so that when you talk the sound meter doesnt reach yellow/red.

Now we can adjust the volume within windows itself which will also need to be done in order for it to work perfectly
So right click on the volume icon on your start bar.

(IMG:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc215/weeknotty/micadjust2.jpg)

Then select audio properties

(IMG:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc215/weeknotty/micadjust3.jpg)

select the audio tab that is displayed (see below image) on this page you have to select the microphone you wish to use, some are built into webcams some are just plugged into your pc/laptop.

(IMG:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc215/weeknotty/micadjust4.jpg)

then select the volume tab followed by the advanced button on this screen you can adjust the microphone volume within windows volume control

(IMG:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc215/weeknotty/micadjust5.jpg)

and finally if you have turned up the microphone volume on both screens you can select the advanced button and turn on mic boost (not always available on every pc/laptop)
