How do you start it (IMG:http://www.profileheaven.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/JC_thinking.gif) My ears are pierced, but kind of closed up but I could pierce them again.

That's why I'm asking. A guy in my old college done it himself I'm sure.

but is doing it DIY really worth the risk of wasting your ears all for the sake of a few quid?

I did my own ears and they are fine.

I went to my piercing shop dood and asked for a kit. He told me that you put the smallest in as far as you can without it hurting. Then all day you twiddle it and push it in a little more...then when it goes through, buy a bar or ring that will be the same gauge (thickness) as the stretcher you just did. Then leave it in so it doesn't shrink and after a month or so put the next one up in. I am upto 14mm at the moment using this method, takes time but it makes sure your ears fully adjust/heal.

My mate went to a piercer.
they cut out the size they wanted & now they're stuck with it that way.
I stretched mine myself using expanders, it took a while, but i went up to 10mm
i dont have them anymore....i took em out & they healed up fine & i can still wear normal earrings...
I'm thinking out stretching again actually....

I've learnt from past mistakes of not using lube (IMG:http://www.profileheaven.com/forum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
its ok when you get past about 12mm though.
Just smaller sizes without lube suck!
