I dont expect details just some advise.

Basicaly iv been done for dangerous driving (twat i know) and im not going contest it, just gonna take it on the chin and take the 18 months ban like a man (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/sly.gif) i already have 9 points so its one battle im not gonna win.

I have a question though as iv never been in trouble with the law before or had to go to court. If im going to plead guilty anyway and just accept the charge then do i really need a solicitor? Is there any real benifit to this as i just see it as an extra expence that i dont need right now.
I was thinking of just representing myself and giving a statment of apology even though it wont be worth alot i know.

(please spare the "your an idiot for driving like that in the first place" comments as im fully aware of this now lol.

anyone clued up on all this sort of stuff?

Solictor would be better at trying to imply mitigating circumstance, maybe persuading the court to take a more lenient view. Other than that..

thanks.

i was more thinking of just being honest and not trying to claim that there were any "unusual circumstances", as i say i really dont have a leg to stand on without going into to too much detail so thats why i was wondering weather a solicitor would be anything other than an extra added cost at the moment.

Generally a solicitor would be wise as they could advise you on the expected sentence. They'd fight the side that you are being honest and holding your hands up saying "my bad" and make sure you get the least sentence possible.

thanks, i may have a consoltation with one and evaluate the cost and see if there is anything they can actualy do as im picking up that you both think it would be benificial.

As i say im really not clued up on law and my way of thinking is no solicitor is going to say " go it alone" as there are a business so i just needed some impartial advise.

Might have a word with advise bureu too come to think of it.

Thats probably the best thing to do, but I would go for at least a consultation so at least you have a heads up of what is an expected and suitable sentence so you don't get screwed.

I doubt you'd get legal aid unless its either a drink driving case or dangerous driving that involved someone getting hurt. For most motoring offences the duty solicitor at court won't even bother speaking to you.

CAB won't offer advice if its a criminal case btw.

The court would take an early guilty plea and the fact he has stood there and said 'I was wrong, I'll take the consequences' into consideration automatically anyway. I'd not go to the expense of a solicitor.

Yeah, just ask the duty solicitor he or she could help you more. You ever been done before? You might have to pay a fine and do community service....
I knew of someone who had to go on some driving skills course lol. But good luck hun.

yea, i think a consoltation at the very least cant hurt and at the very least they can tell me what a realistic ban to expect time wise.

this is exacly what i was thinking mate, at this stage im thinking that honesty is the best policy as i dont really have a leg to stand on.
I was also very cooperative with the police so im hoping it will have some sort of influence...all be it minimal.

trust me.... i know how stupid it sounds.

I would even go as far as to say i deserve a long ban to get my arse in gear. Sometimes you need shit like this to happen to really learn.

Well at least you have that attitude towards it.

I'd agree with what the others have said.. a solicitor will be best in order to get a more leniant outcome etc.

How fast were you going? (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

You might get away with it though, depends if the judge is a cockend or not.

Also, how long you had these 9 points for? (ie when were your first points etc) (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/JC_thinking.gif)

Disqualification under the ‘totting-up’ system

If you build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years, you’ll be liable to be disqualified under the 'totting-up' system.

Generally, you can be disqualified from driving for:

* six months if you get 12 penalty points or more within three years

Oh that's shocking. If you were going over 100mph you can kiss your license goodbye (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I've had it clean for 3 years now (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/cloud9.gif) I speed all the time too just never been caught (IMG:http://media.profileheaven.com/images/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Once I was doing 90 on the aston express way (which is a 50) and a copper came out of nowhere and flew past me, thank fuck he never pulled me has they're harsh as fuck on there.
