as i said im banned for 12 months now but after much thought im keeping the car.... the problem im now having is no one seems to want to insure it for fire and thieft only.

I cant have a 20k car sitting there without insurance for thieft but i refuse to pay full wack fully comp on a car im not even gonna be driving.

Any advise ?

I have tried a have specialist insurance and they only cover classic cars....help!!!!

Sell it. It's still gonna depreciate while off the road.

iv given it so much thought mate....fact is if i sell il end up spending most of the money and i wont be able to buy a decent car in 12 months.


Granted the deprieciation will be alot but im thinking of it as a very long term car so its not a huge deal.

Have you tried Direct Line? They seem to offer tpo.

Why not sign the v5 over to one of your family, get them to insure it and you give them the money it costs, then sign it back over to you in 12 months.

That's not a bad idea, but it adds another previous owner to the v5.

iv tried looking for laid up cover but i cant seem to find any companys that do it for cars that are eithe A) not classics and B ) not locked in a garage. My car would be off roadside in private parking but not garage.


I may seriously have to consider giving it to my dad for a year or just take a huge gamble and just not have insurance for a year.

When inwas finding a quote for my car there was the option of Fire and theft.

all sorted now... iv just put my dad on the insurance as main driver and kept it as fully comp... his like 63 with a clean licence and no points so its bumped my insurence right down.

i did asks but aparently they will only do 3rd party fire n thieft if the car is under 5k in value so no joy.
